Where Exactly Is the WS13 to WS14 Postcode Boundary in Lichfield?

We do the majority of our private hire taxi pickups and drop-offs in the Lichfield area. One thing has had us puzzled though - Where is the actual border between the WS13 and WS14 postcodes in Lichfield?

We always thought that the south of Lichfield was WS14 and the centre and north was WS13. Well, that is nearly right but we got the location of the border wrong.

We had assumed that the border between the two Walsall postcode districts ran along Birmingham road, Greenhill and Church Street and then down Trent Valley Road.

Close, but there is a much simpler answer that we never thought of until we decided to investigate using Google Maps.

The border actually runs through Lichfield following the path of the old Walsall to Burton railway line. Which makes complete sense as using this west/east divider, addresses on either side of a road won’t have different postcodes.

But there are a few anomalies along the route.

There’s a very strange square rerouting by the bridge on Upper St John Street to include the Sefton Fish Bar.

And then a massive dogleg in Streethay to run south on the A38 before heading east again with a few more wobbles down Cappers Lane, bulging up to to include Whittington before heading off down the West Coast Main Line.

Now, you might have thought this information is only good for the Dull Men’s Club page on Facebook. Possibly, but it does help when quickly locating addresses for taxi pickups in the Lichfield area, especially with all the new roads that Lichfield has gained over the last few years!

All images are from Google - and of course the boundary.
