Understanding the Recent Increase in Airport Transfer Costs: What You Need to Know

Do you want the good news or the bad news first?

The bad news is that the majority of the UK’s airports have increased their short-term parking charges for 2024.

Taxis that travel to Birmingham Airport will now have to pay £5 instead of £4 to use the 15 minute Premium Drop-Off zone. This is slightly annoying as this time last year, the drop-off fee was just £3 - that’s a whopping increase of 66% in less than 12 months!

The new cost of parking at London Heathrow

The sign on the payment machine that greeted Heathrow parkers at the beginning of 2024.

Other airports have taken the opportunity to bump their prices as well. For example all the short stay charges went up at Heathrow as soon as the calendar flipped to 2024. The drop-off remains the same at £5, possibly because it is written on the overhead signs as you approach the zones!

So now the good news.

We are not putting our prices up. If you would like a transfer from Lichfield to Birmingham Airport, we will absorb the £1 increase. Likewise when we wait for you at Heathrow using the short-term car parks, we won’t pass on the increases.

You can of course still park in the free area at Birmingham and walk if you wish.

Finally, East Midlands airport is still £5 for the quick drop-off/pickup area. Pretty sure it will tick over to £6 some time in 2024.
