Lichfield to Birmingham Airport Taxi & Executive Transfers

Birmingham Airport terminal and Premium Set Down drop-off area

Birmingham Airport (BHX/EGBB)

This is our most frequent airport taxi route. It’s a mix of business flights and also holiday traffic as BHX is a hub for Jet2 and TUI. It is also the closest airport to Lichfield, at about 35 minutes door to door. Cost is £75 to £90 depending on how many people are travelling, including the BHX drop-off/pick-up fees.

Getting to Birmingham Airport

The trip to BHX is quite simple: A38 → A446 → M42 → A45. With no traffic it takes about 35 minutes from Lichfield, but during rush hour it can be double that. We recommend using the M6 Toll between 7:00 and 8:30am on the way out. On the return we tend to consult Waze/Google Maps and decide if it is worth using the toll.

Dropping off at Birmingham Airport

We recommend using the Premium Set Down area right outside the terminal, and we factor the cost of that into the rate. There are two areas within that zone that we try to stop at. The first is on the left-hand side after the barriers, which is close to the Jet2 entrance. For all other flights, we drop you closer to the main doors. Both are a short walk to the airlines’ check-in desks.

Picking up at Birmingham Airport

We track your flight and send a text for you to receive when you land. Normally we are parked up close by and will wait until you send us a message saying you have your bags. We will then meet you in the Premium Set Down area. By the time you have crossed the bus lane into the car park, we should be there waiting! If you prefer, we can park and meet you in the terminal. We would ask you to cover the extra car parking cost.

It normally takes 30-45 minutes to clear customs and retrieve your bags. If your flight lands just behind the Emirates A380 from Dubai, expect baggage reclaim to take a little longer.

Early flights and late arrivals

BHX is a 24-hour airport, so we are used to early morning landings! There is also a ‘mini-rush’ between 3 and 4am, when a lot of vehicles arrive to drop passengers for the charter flights that start leaving at 6am.

Extra info

We are used to taking families to BHX so we are more than happy to accommodate children. Please take a look at our article that is all about car seats. We also try our best to accommodate passengers with limited movement and we have transported many wheelchairs and wheeled walking frames in the boot.

Although we prefer to invoice for bank transfer, we also accept all credit cards and cash.

Birmingham Airport trivia

Birmingham Airport was originally called Elmdon Airport. The gorgeous Grade 2 listed Art Deco terminal on the other side of the runway was opened in 1939. It really looks like something out of Casablanca — you can imagine Rick under the parapets waving off a Dakota! The building is now used by Signature Flight Support. The building that houses the Jet2 check-in was originally built as a stand-alone terminal for British Airways in 1984.
