At Last! Birmingham Airport Finally Goes Barrierless
We do lots of airport transfers from Lichfield to Birmingham Airport, so this is really good news for us and customers.
You might have read in previous blog posts about the Premium Set Down zone and how the prices have gone up, and the chaos during certain times at the barriers.
Well, it seems that our prayers have been answered and from the 20th of March 2025, both the premium and the free drop-off zone are barrierless. Drive in and then out without having to pay to get the barrier up.
When NCP replied to us mentioning that they were looking into a barrierless system, we didn’t realise that one would be installed so quickly.
“In regard to the ANPR and online payment system applied at other airports, we currently don’t have this system in place at Birmingham Airport as of yet but may be implemented in the near future whilst other works are being carried out.”
Well, it is installed, up and running and we have to congratulate Birmingham Airport for getting this operational quickly and without fuss.
The charge for a stay at this car park must be paid within 24 hours of exiting the car park. To avoid receiving a Parking Charge Notice (PCN), customers have several payment options:
AutoPay Account: Setting up an AutoPay account with NCP before visiting is the easiest method. This allows for automatic payment deduction after each visit.
Post Pay Online: For customers without an AutoPay account who have already used the car park, payment can be made via Post Pay within 24 hours of exit.
Pay Machines Onsite: Customers can pay for their stay immediately before leaving the car park using the machines onsite.

As for the free set down area, you can just drive in and out. However, you will only get 10 minutes free, so it is not a place to park up and wait. We suggest you look at this very handy guide of where to park when waiting for a plane to land at Birmingham Airport.
